Tantalus at Ryton 2012
The most recent group project is taking place at Ryton Organic gardens, Coventry, over the summer months. Tantalus members are planning to exhibit work in the natural setting of the gardens. There will be sculptural and ceramic pieces in various locations, all drawing attention to the beauty of the surroundings and the cycle of life.
The flags near the entrance have been up for some time, surviving the foul weather, and now that there is a more settled season, more work has been put in place.
A Collaboration
Kathy Jenkin, ceramic artist, and myself worked on a collaborative piece of metal and ceramic that now hangs in a silver birch near to the Craftsman Trees. This piece references the seed pod and its protective covering, splitting away during the summer, ready to reseed. Essentially the fragile materials are free to swing in the weather, and will hopefully survive the wind and rain.
The Tantalus Project Facebook page has images of all the art work currently at Ryton. If you are visiting the gardens during the next few months look out for the Tantalus installations among the plants. I hope you enjoy them.
